Why acetyl salicylic acid doesnot give positive result with ferric chloride?

In salicyclic acid there are two functional group one is -OH and other is -COOH in which phenolic group gives positive ferric chloride test whereas in case of acetylsalicyclic acid, phenolic group changes to acetyl group that's why it unable to give positive test for ferric chloride.
