What are transference numbers and how are they related to ionic mobilities?
Transference number is the ratio of electric current derived from Cation of an electrolyte to the total electric current. Also, ionic mobility is the conductivity of a solution containing 1g of ion, at infinity dilution when two sufficiently large electrodes are placed 1cm apart. The relationship between transference number and ionic mobility is that, the knowledge of transference number tells us about the conductivity of the electrolyte. For example, if the transference number is close to 1,it implies that the ionic mobility (conductivity) of the electrolyte is mainly accomplished by cations.
