The structural features of the superionic conductors include: small ion size, low ion charge, low coordination number for mobile ions, large number of vacant sites, rigid framework with open channels or layers where ions can migrate.
The superionic compounds can be divided into two big groups based on the studies of the widely studied compounds - AgI and beta-PbF2. The most common include perovskite-structured oxides and Li+ containing spinel-structured compounds.
