Question #106605

Metallic radius depends to some extent on what structure of the metal?

Expert's answer

The radius of an atom of a metal element depends on its electronic structure. The larger the number of electronic levels, the larger the radius. Also, in many respects it depends on the proton-electron interaction inside the atom itself. The stronger this interaction, the smaller the radius.
