Сobalt acetate tetrahydrate:

"(CH_3COO)_2Co * 4H_2O"

Pink-red crystals. Soluble in water. The decomposition temperature 140 degrees Celsius.

Nickel acetate tetrahydrate:

"(CH_3COO)_2Ni * 4H_2O"

Light green crystals. Soluble in water. The decomposition temperature is 250 degrees Celsius.

Chemical properties:

  • decompose with the release of water (like all crystalline hydrates);
  • reacts with solutions of strong acids (e.g. chloride);
  • reacts with carbonates.

Cobalt oxide:

"CoO"

Water insoluble dark turquoise crystals.

Nickel oxide:

"NiO"

The crystalline substance is turquoise. Insoluble in water.

Chemical properties:

  • dissolve with the formation of salts in solutions of acids and alkalis:
  • reacts with hydrogen to form reduced metal and water;
  • reacts and fuses with acid oxides;
  • cobalt oxide is oxidized by oxygen when heated to form mixed cobalt oxides.

Nickel-cobalt oxide is a type of alloy that is a composite material. It has special properties (for example, a special value of thermal conductivity).

The chemical properties are associated with increased resistance to oxidation, including corrosion.
