Answer to Question #83364 in General Chemistry for Lauren

Question #83364
PCl3 (g) + Cl2 (g) ⇆ PCl5 (g)
Kp = 242 at 150 degrees celsius

Part A:
A reckless lab worker stores 0.050 moles of PCl5 is stored in a 1.00 L flask in a cabinet near a furnace where the temperature is 150 degrees celsius. What is the partial pressure of each of the compounds in the system when the equilibrium has been achieved? Show all work.

Part B:
The forward reaction above is found to be exothermic (ΔH = -10 kJ/mol). Indicate how each of the following would affect the partial pressure of PCl5 after equilibrium is reestablished. (answer with: increase, decrease, or unchanged)
1. increasing pressure Cl2
2. increasing temperature
3. removing Cl2
4. decreasing the volume

Please show all work for part A. Thank you!
