Unbalanced equation is : CO + O2 =CO2
In balanced equation number of carbon atoms from each side of equation should be equal, and
number of oxygen from each side of equation should be equal. We can see 1 atom of C before
equal sign and 1 atom of C after equal sign. These numbers of carbon atoms are equal. We can
see three oxygen atoms before equal sign and two atoms of oxygen after equal sign. These
numbers are not equal. We should put a coefficient 2 before CO and also coefficient 2 before
CO2:
2CO+O2 =2CO2
The numbers of oxygen are equal: 21+12 =24; 4=4;
The numbers of carbon are equal: 21 =21; 2=2.
Answer: 2CO+O2 =2CO2
