Why add ethanol for ferric test?

Classic ferric test is usually provided in aqueous solutions. But to increase the solubility of the sample ethanol may be added. It dissolves organic samples better than water and forms mixtures with water easily. Otherwise, although dichloromethane is a good solvent for organic compounds, it does not combines with water and forms heterogeneous system (that is worse than homogeneous).
