Why must the water used for rinsing the recrystallized vanillin be cold and why is it limited to 3 mL?

Vanillin is insoluble in cold water. Therefore only cold water is used for rinsing the recrystallized vanillin.
The limited amount of water is used for minimization the solubility of vanillin (the greater volume of water will be used, the greater amount of vanillin will dissolve).
