It can react with carbon dioxide in the presence of water:
sodium peroxide + carbon dioxide + water → sodium bicarbonate + oxygen
2 Na2O2 + 4 CO2 + 2 H2O → 4 NaHCO3 + O2
(This assumes a huge excess of carbon dioxide; sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide are alternative products that might form if less carbon dioxide were available, or other acids might get into the action if present.)
