What is ion
An ion is an atom or group of atoms that carry one or more positive or negative electrical charges. The two types of ions are cations and anions where a cation is a positively charged ion while an anion is a negatively charged ion. Ions are formed by the addition or removal of electrons from neutral atoms, molecules, and other ions. They are also formed by the combination of ions with other particles, by rupture of a covalent bond between two atoms such that both of the electrons of the bond are left in association with one formally bonded atom.
