Question #285086

what is the connection between an element's electron arrangement and its Group number?

Expert's answer

Electron configuration of any element has a relation to its group it belongs based on the valence number. By considering sodium which has atomic number 11, this gives it an electronic configuration of 2,8,1. Based on that configuration, sodium belongs group one elements because on its outermost most shell, it has one electron.
