A sample of oxygen occupies 47.2 litres under a pressure of 1240 torr at 25oC. What volume would it occupy at 25oC if the pressure were decreased to 730 torr?
In this question, temperature, T does not change (is constant) hence only pressure, P and volume, V changes.
In that case we apply Boyle's Law, P1V1=P2V2
P1=1240 torrent
P2=730 torrent
V1=47.2 L
V2 = P1V1/P2
= (1240 torr x 47.2 L)/730 torr
= 80.175L
