Consider the following balanced equation.
4 NH3 + 5 O2 4 NO + 6 H2O
How many moles of O2 are required to react with 6.9 moles of NH3?
solution
4NH3+5O2→4NO+2O
5 moles of oxygen required to react with a mole of ammonia
Thus x mole of oxygen will react with (6.9/ 17) mole of ammonia
x={(5×6.9)/ (4×17)}
=0.5
Hence, the number moles of O2
required is 0.5 mol.
