Let, V1= 4.2 L
P1= 1.1 atm
T1= x K
V2= 8 L
P2= 9 atm
T2= (31+273) K
= 304 K
According to the equation of state of ideal gas,
P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2
Or, T1 = (P1V1/P2V2)×T2
= [(1.1 × 4.2)/(9 × 8)] × 304
= 19.51 K
Hence, the initial temperature of the system = 19.51 K
