A 27 g aluminum foil pan is used to roast vegetables. The pan is put into a cold oven at 22 oC . How much energy in cal is absorbed by the pan after cooking at 232 oC (450. oF) for 25 minutes?
25 minutes is enough for the pan to get to 232oC. So we have initial (22oC) and final (232oC) temperatures. Aluminium specific heat capacity is 0.215 cal/g/oC at 25oC (this is a table value and let's assume it doesn't change with temperature).
Then, energy absorbed Q = 27*0.215*(232-22) = 1219.05 cal.
