Answer to Question #156537 in General Chemistry for ash

Question #156537
  1. Given the following standard free energies at 25°C for the following reactions:

N2O5 (g) 🡪 2 NO (g) + 3/2 O2 (g)        ΔG° = -59.2 kJ

NO (g) + ½ O2 (g) 🡪 NO2 (g)         ΔG° = -35.6 kJ

Calculate ΔG° at 25°C for the following reaction:

2 NO2 (g) + ½ O2 (g) 🡪 N2O5 (g)

Inorder to calculate the ∆G for the given reaction.

If we revert the first chemical reaction and then add with the 2 times of revert of reaction 2 we will get the required reaction.

Hence ∆G for the required reaction will be

∆G = -2x ∆G2 + (-∆G1)

∆G = 35.6x2 + 59.2 = 120.4 KJ
