Answer to Question #146949 in General Chemistry for Jenny

Question #146949

3NO2(g) + H2O(l) → 2HNO3(g) + NO(g)

Determine whether this is thermodynamically feasible under foolowing conditions. Select all that apply.

This reaction is thermodynamically feasible under standard conditions at 298 K.

This reaction is thermodynamically feasible at 298 K, with each product gas present at p = 1.00 × 10−6 bar.

The given reaction is feasible at Standard conditions.

Method to be used is very simple.

Look up the Gibbs energy of the reactants and products (per mole).

"\\Delta G(Reaction)=G(formation) of reactants-G(formation) of procucts"

Use the above formula and by doing simple algebra you can arrive at the answer.

For more detailed formula

"\\Delta G= \\Delta H - T\\Delta S"

where "\\Delta H" is change in enthalpy , T is the temperature at which the reaction is carried out and "\\Delta S" is entropy change.
