Question #144774

150 kg of propane is burned with 35% excess air . 85% of the carbon in the fuel burns to CO2 and the remaining to CO. Find the complete analysis of the flue gas.

Expert's answer

Propane is C3H8

since 44 g of propane contains 36 g Carbon.

so in 150 kg it contains 122.73 kg carbon.

out of which 85% is responsible for CO2 .

104.32 kg carbon or 127.5 Kg propane is responsible for CO2

C3H8 + 5 O2 \rightarrow 3CO2 + 4 H2O

1mole of propane gives 3 moles of CO2

127.5 Kg propane is equal to 2.89 Kmoles

so it will give 383.50 Kg of CO2

C3H8 + (7/2) O2 \rightarrow 3CO + 4H2O

so remaining 22.5 Kg propane will produce CO.

22.5 Kg is responsible for 42.95 Kg CO.
