If the Earth did not rotate, the direction of winds would progress either south or north due to differences in pressure and temperature at diverse latitudes. Therefore, since the Earth does rotate, the Coriolis force bounces the direction of these winds to the left in the Southern Hemisphere, and to the right in the Northern Hemisphere.
