Question:

Distinguish between binary fission and conjugation in paramecium.

 In binary fission, a parent cell divides to produce two identical cells, each with the

potential to grow to the same size as the original cell. While conjugation is a type of sexual

reproduction, it is a temporary union of two individuals of the same species for the purpose

of mutual genetic exchange.

 Binary fission occurs in both prokaryotes and Eukaryotes while conjugation occurs in

bacteria.

 In binary fission, there is no wastage of time since it only needs one parent to reproduce

while conjugation reproduction occurs through the cell-to-cell contact between the two

organisms.

 Binary is a method of asexual reproduction (a reproduction not involving sexual gamete)

while conjugation is a method of horizontal gene transfer in prokaryotes.

Other forms of Protozoa Reproduction.

 Budding is a form of sexual reproduction in which a new individual develops from some

generative anatomical of the parent organism, it also buds around a nuclear and pinch of the

parent cell.

 Schizogony is the asexual reproduction characteristics of certain protozoa in which

daughter cells produce multiple fissions of the nucleus of the parasite followed by

segmentation.

 Fission is a form of sexual reproduction in single-celled animal, where the cells are split,

most of the protozoa reproduce asexually producing two equal or in equal Cells.
