Water currents influence the existence of life, especially in the lotic, or free flowing water systems. The position of face flow of water provides access to a conveyor belt like food delivery system. Stream and river habitats are divided in different scales, which are; the large scale flowing from source to mouth, local scale structure, and the small scale differences. Large rivers accommodate large fish, as well as small fish. Supply of organic matter, oxygen, and nutrients in large rivers is high compared to small rivers. The depth of the river also influences the number of fish in large rivers. Small rivers, on the other hand accommodate a small number of fish, which are smaller size compared to those found in large rivers.
