It is a cell wall in prokaryotes. It maintains the shape of the cell. Cytoskeleton of the eukaryotic cell creates the framework, at which cell membrane hangs upon. In prokaryotes, the rigid cell wall does not change its shape, and thus, the shape of the cell remains the same.
