1. Basal body temperatures only show when ovulation has occurred. They do not predict ovulation. Normal sperm life within a vagina is up to seven to ten days, making prediction of ovulation several days in advance necessary for avoiding pregnancy.

2. An egg can't be fertilized in the womb as only the fertilized egg within 24 hours starts to travel to the uterus for implantation, otherwise it is eliminated.

3. Intrauterine devices (IUD) could be hormonal or not and are designed to stop sperm from reaching and fertilizing the egg. Upon fertilization within 24 hours the egg start to move slowly through the fallopian tube to the uterus up to 7 days, dividing fast into many cells. So, if woman's egg is fertilized and about 4 days later, she gets an IUD implanted, she has a high risk of extrauterine pregnancy.
