Digestion process starts normally before food enters digestive tract. Preliminary stage prepares digestive system for uptake of food. Anticipation, imaging, smelling, seeing of food activate reflectory secretion of saliva by glands located under the tongue and near the lower jaw. Brain stimulates secretion of saliva within reflectory circle.
