The mitotic spindle is the macromolecular machine that segregates chromosomes to two daughter cells during mitosis. Meanwhile, during meiosis, the spindle fibers are referred to as the meiotic spindle. The mitotic and meiotic spindles are composed of three distinct types of microtubule fibers (kinetochore microtubules, polar microtubules, and aster microtubules; all emanating from the centrosomes)
