Lack of angiotensin-converting enzyme caused by a genetic mutation will impair the functioning of the renin-angiotensin pathway. The angiotensin-converting enzyme converts angiotensin I to angiotensin II resulting in the formation of the active hormone that is a strong vasoconstrictor. As a result, lack of angiotensin-converting enzyme will impair the formation of angiotensin II affecting the regulation of blood pressure. The person carrying the mutation will have decreased blood pressure due to the inactivity of the renin-angiotensin system that could increase and normalize blood pressure.
