Secondary immunodeficiencies are diseases associated with the impaired immune system due to the effect of external factors and infections. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is the most common infectious agent that causes the development of secondary immunodeficiencies. Some other viruses comprising influenza virus, measles virus, and cytomegalovirus may affect immune system suppressing the maturation and activation of immune cells.
