What is apoptosis, and what role does it play in preserving the integrity of the genome of a multi- cellular organism?
Apoptosis is a response to DNA damage, with the biological goal of protecting a multicellular organism against a damaged cell.Apoptosis also known as programmed cell death is a highly conserved mechanism by which eucaryotic cells commit suicide. It enables an organism to eliminate unwanted and defective cells through the process of cellular disintegration that has the advantage of not inducing an undesirable inflammatory response and proliferation of abnormal cells and formation of cancers and tumors.
