Why can't normal hydrogen bonding with nitrogenous bases of DNA occur when the molecule is in duplex/helix form?
If the DNA molecule is in a helical form, then not only the spatial arrangement of atoms in complementary nucleotides between which a hydrogen bond is established changes, but the distance between these atoms also changes, which makes the formation of hydrogen bonds impossible.
