The two irreversible checkpoints in the cell cycle are: G1/S and G2/M.
a) G1/S - controls the passage of eukaryotic cells from the first gap phase (G1) into the DNA synthesis phase (S).
b) G2/M - A cell cycle that ensures that cells don't initiate mitosis until damaged or incompletely replicated DNA is sufficiently repaired.
