Gametes be a parental generation and not a parent cell. A gamete is a cell that fuses to form a zygote which is the next generation of the parents. It produces the F1 generation ie is the first generation after the fusion of the two gametes which is the offspring of the parents. hence gamete is called the parental generation as is produces generation.

Parent cell is one which devides itself to produce two daughter cells. the term is generally used to somatic cells and not the sex cells. Parent cell is used to indicate the cells undergoing mitosis and meosis.
