1.Chromosome: A carrier of genetic information that is visible under an ordinary light microscope

A chromatid is one of two identical halves of a replicated chromosome.



A gene is the basic physical and functional unit of heredity. Genes are made up of DNA.

An allele is a variant form of a gene.


Because of recombination and independent assortment in meiosis, each gamete contains a different set of DNA. ... A gamete will end up with 23 chromosomes after meiosis, but independent assortment means that each gamete will have 1 of many different combinations of chromosomes.
