explain the first gene map of chromosome of drosophila by alfred strurtevants?
Alfred Sturtevant used the frequency of crossing over to find out the distance between the genes. The frequency of crossing over is high if the genes are present at a distance. If genes are close to each other then there will be less likelihood of crossing over.
He first arranged 6, x linked genes of Drosophila. These genes were as follows:
B- black body-color
C- eye color
P- if present results in vermilion eyes if absent results in ordinary red
O(2 copies)- recessive gene codes for eosin colored eyes
As he observed no recombination between the C and O genes, he placed these genes in the same position. Then he observed cross-over frequency to find out the distance between the other genes.
