Advantages and Disadvantages of DNS Assay.
1.Advantages of DNS Assay
DNS assay is a convenient and relatively inexpensive method. The DNS assay can be used as an accurate analytical method for the evaluation of reducing sugars both in pure solutions and supernatants from enzymatic saccharifications of purified cellulosics if glucose is the sole product.
2.Disadvantages of DNS assay.
The DNS assay has a relatively low specificity hence one must run blanks deligently if the calorimetric results are to be interpreted correctly and accurately. DNS assay cannot be applied in measuring pectinase activity against pectins because DNS reagent is destructive for polysaccharides. DNS assay is also associated with over estimations.
