What is a Tort - A tort is a wrongful act or an infringement of a right (other than under contract) leading to civil legal liability. The objectives of Tort Laws - There are four elements to tort law: duty, breach of duty, causation, and injury. In order to claim damages, there must be a breach in the duty of the defendant towards the plaintiff, which results in an injury. Types of Torts- The three main types of torts are negligence, strict liability (product liability), and intentional torts (Tort Law). Negligent torts, as their name suggests, are torts that are caused by the negligence or person who commits the tort. Intentional torts, also as their name suggests, are torts caused intentionally. Strict liability torts are torts where the law has determined that some activities are so dangerous that an individual engaging in those activities is liable for damages regardless of intent or negligence resulting in harm.
