2. (a) Write an expression for the equilibrium constant for ammonia synthesis (assume all molecules are in the gas phase). 3. Based on the elementary steps proposed for ammonia synthesis (given in lecture) suggest, with reasons, what the rate limiting step (s) may be. 4. In a book on Industrial Chemistry the following equation is found as a summary of the preparation of the active catalyst phase for ammonia synthesis: 〖Fe〗_3 O_4 (s)+4 H_2 (g)↔3Fe (s)+4 H_2 O (g) Describe the processes in the catalyst activation steps that would account for this overall summary reaction. Include in your answer a description of the catalyst precursor, any reactions occurring during the activation step, conditions for activation and also a schematic of the process. 5. The water produced in this activation step must be removed from the system. Suggest reasons for this operational requirement. How would complete removal of the water be achieved?
