2. Comment on Mahatma Gandhi's role in the national movement.

Mohandas Karamchand (or Mahatma) Gandhi played a very important role in the Indian national struggle for independence.

He took part in mass meetings, calling people to fight against the domination of Great Britain, and he always proclaimed the non-violent methods of fighting. For example, he encouraged the Indian to boycott British goods, especially fabrics; he also worked to revive the traditional Indian crafts. Being the head of the National Congress during 1919 – 1947, Gandhi transformed it into the truly national organization which gained the wide support among people. During the mass bloody conflicts between the Muslims and the Hindus, Gandhi declared starvation, in attempt to stop the bloodshed. Finally, the agreement was accomplished.

Mahatma Gandhi influenced the Indian struggle for independence greatly; more than that, he influenced people's minds. He showed people that the struggle can be non-violent, he was an example of love to the Motherland and the devotion to the duty.

3. What do you understand by the term 'social structure'? Discuss.

From my point of view, social structure is a system of organizing relationship and cooperation inside a society, organization, company, group of people etc.

One of the examples of social structure is social classes, way of organizing the society in communist or socialist countries. In India these would be castes, in most modern countries – social groups. Social structure explains the interaction between different groups of people (in

a big society) or between individuals (in a small group). It also defines the access of different people to the resources of society, such as financial, intellectual etc.

I think that social structure is very important as it organizes people inside different societies and prevents them from becoming anarchistic.
