Positivism refers to the name for the scientific study of the social world. Its objective is to formulate abstract and universal laws on the operative dynamics of the social universe. In positivism, laws are to be tested against collected data systematically. Other objectives were ; to provide a philosophical foundation for sociology and to provide an organizational scheme for all "positive" knowledge (math and the sciences).
