Western ideals have become symbols of the dominant mentality, economic prosperity, and perhaps universal values. Western ideals emphasize the free market, democracy, the rule of law, separation of religion and state, individualism, and human rights in general. Previously, prominent Western countries attempted to promote these principles by exerting political and economic influence over non-Western countries and their citizens. According to many moderate Western and non-Western researchers, these qualities are beneficial, constructive, and necessary for non-Western countries' social and economic progress. Western values are largely political, but they have ramifications in social, cultural, economic, race relations, and management concerns at all levels of society. Westernization inevitably stifles the full development of non-Western people's indigenous cultures and traditions.Furthermore, it generates racism and prejudice against non-Western individuals in Western societies, as well as resentment of Western values among non-Western people.
