According to August Comte, each society or science passes through 3 different stages namely: the theological stage, the metaphysical stage and the positive stage. An example of the theological stage is when at the beginning, people believed that all phenomena was created by a supernatural or was as a result of some divine power. An example of the metaphysical stage is when people characterize God as being an abstract being. Lastly, the positive stage is the scientific stage. It is where everything goes through a scientific stage though observation, experiment and comparison.
