Nontsikelelo Albertina Sisulu (née Nontsikelelo Thethiwe) was a famous anti-apartheid South African politician known as the "Mother of the Nation." Albertina Sisulu was one of five children born on October 21, 1918, in the Transkei area of Tsomo to Bonilizwe and Monikazi Thethiwe. She was a nurse, a political activist, and a confidante to her husband, Walter Sisulu, former Secretary-General and Deputy President of the African National Congress (ANC).
Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, originally named Nomzamo Winifred Madikizela, original Xhosa name Nkosikazi Nobandle Nomzamo Madikizela, (born September 26, 1936, Bizana, Pondoland district, Transkei [now in Eastern Cape], South Africa—died April 2, 2018, Johannesburg, South Africa), South African social worker and activist widely regarded as the “Mother of the Nation” by many Black South Africans. She was Nelson Mandela's second wife, from whom she divorced in 1992 due to her dubious behavior and uncontrolled militancy, which alienated fellow anti-apartheid campaigners, including her husband.
