Modern democracy is a form of government where the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by citizens or representatives who are elected under a free and fair electoral system. However modern democracy consists of four elements which include; the government system of free and fair election to choose or replace leaders, active participation of all citizens in political and civil activities, protection of human rights of every citizen, and finally the rule of law that govern citizens and their elected leaders in the society.
Citizenship education is providing children with the necessary education from early childhood to become clear-thinking and enlightened who can effectively participate in societal decisions making. therefore children can be able to understand the nation's institutions, the laws, regulations that govern the society in which they belong, citizen rights and freedoms, and leadership skills among others
