Question 4.2
i. Social stratification
Social stratification is the segmentation of a society's population into socioeconomic strata depending on attributes such as money, wealth, ethnicity, education, and status. Examples include wealth and income, socioeconomic status, ethnic background, sexuality, political standing, and religious belief.
ii. Ascribed Characteristics
Ascribed characteristics are attributes that a person acquires from birth, through heredity, or the aging process. Examples of ascribed characteristics include sex, ethnicity, and age.
iii. Achieved characteristics
Achieved characteristics are gained or selected based on merit; it is a stance that represents a person's capabilities, competencies, and accomplishments. Examples include professional athletes, university professors, and lawyers.

As a teacher, I would implement the following strategies to combat racial discrimination in the classroom. Such practices include having a legal complaint equal opportunity set of policies, coaching all staff on the policies and procedures, responding appropriately, enforcing the policy, and considering supervision.

A teacher can introduce gender-fair teaching practices by creating equal educational opportunities for learners in the school environment and with the instructors. A good teacher handles their pupils equitably and fosters an environment in which they feel equally capable of participating. However, teachers might unintentionally create the perception of gender prejudice through nonverbal actions.

Examples of classroom-based examples of gender-fair teaching include using gender-neutral dialect, addressing learning equally, and having equal academic and behavior standards for all learners.
