b) Citizenship education (4)
Modern democracy refers to the system where people vote in the most accessible way and the constitution is written by them. It was started in 1788 by the American constitution makers. In modern democracy, people vote freely their leaders openly in ballot papers. It has given rise to social activism where people are able to present any breach of their rights via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram among other blogs.
Citizenship education refers to educating children, from early childhood, to become clear-thinking and enlightened citizens who participate in decisions concerning society. It is essential to teach students to work together and take practical action, using their Citizenship knowledge and understanding to contribute to a better society. Citizenship education helps in the formation of civic competencies. The education allows a citizen to effectively cope with the social role, specified for citizens of that country. It helps citizens to fully use their civil rights and civil freedoms.
