Class delineation in Africa during colonialism was motivated by racism and technological advancements. The development of capitalism during this period led to the dominance of two capitalist classes, namely capital-holding and investing bourgeoisie, as well as the landless and resource-less working class. Technological advancements created new divisions due to the need for manning of increasing state mechanisms. The classic delineation of Africans occurred in accordance with limited economic development of capitalism, which achieved a modest social purchase.
