The scramble for Africa commenced during the Berlin Conference in 1884-1885, and ended in early 20th century. this period was characterized by delineation of Africa by European colonizers. they partitioned Africa into colonies, spheres of influence, and other segments. Land was delineated from European capitals and there was limited knowledge of Geography, ethnic composition and overall history. Today's African countries contain significant portions of their populations belonging to the groups divided by colonial demarcates.
