The relation between global population and Spanish that occurred between 1918 and 1919 was influenced by the emergence of a pandemic, Spanish flu. During this time, Spain was a neutral nation in regards to the World War I, as it had not participated in the war. However, when the Spanish flu sprouted in 1918, it infected many people. More than 500 million people were infected by the killer flu globally. It killed between 20 and 50 million people worldwide, including more than 650,000 American. Although the disease did not originate from Spain, it was hardly hit. This occurrence reduced the population of Spain and the entire world
