Accommodation involves the modification of an existing schema to understand (accommodate) new information. Schemas, or organized knowledge, help us understand and interpret our world. For example when I was young I had a schema for birds having feathers and been able to fly but I also saw a plane which flies too but this would not fit my bird's schemas.
