It is responsible for sensing a stimulus. After detecting the stimulus, they send information about that stimulus to the body's central nervous system. Sensory input, such as smells and feelings of pain, is carried from the point of reception up the spinal cord and into the brain by motor neurons carrying neural impulses away from the central nervous system and toward muscles to cause movement.
